Our escrow services in Hong Kong start from a signed agreement that sets the conditions. We hold the funds in a segregated client account and the shares or documents in our document vault until those conditions are met, and we release only as the agreement says.
Who it is for

| Role | What it does |
|---|---|
| Settlor | Sets up the structure and transfers assets into it |
| Trustee | Holds the assets and manages them under the trust deed |
| Adviser | Gives investment directions that the trustee follows |
| Bank | Holds the account and acts on the trustee's instructions |
How it works
The parties and their lawyers set the conditions, the release mechanics and the dispute route in a written agreement. We review it as the agent.
We identify each party, its controlling persons and the source of the funds.
Funds go into the client account; shares and documents go into our document vault.
We check the evidence the agreement requires, such as a completion certificate or a joint instruction.
We release to the party the agreement names, and report the closing to all parties.
In detail
For an escrow account, funds sit in a segregated client account with a bank, in the currency the agreement names.
Share certificates, title documents and signed instruments stay in our document vault until completion.
Our role
We do not give legal, tax or investment advice. Your own advisers do that; we hold and release under the agreement.
Documents and timeline
We can open the holding once every party is onboarded and the agreement is signed.
We release after the conditions in the agreement are confirmed, and we report the closing to all parties.
FAQ
An account in which a neutral agent holds money for two or more parties until the conditions of their agreement are met. The agent follows the agreement, not the wishes of one side. Who receives any interest, and who bears the bank charges, is set by the agreement and the bank’s terms, so ask about both before you sign.
Only the persons, and in the form, that the agreement names. That is often a joint instruction from buyer and seller, or a certificate from an agreed third party such as a lawyer or an expert. We check the evidence against the agreement before any payment leaves the account.
The charge for fiduciary services depends on the size and length of the arrangement, the number of parties and the work in the release. Send us the draft agreement and we quote once we have reviewed it. The quote lists each component, so each party can see what it pays for before the agreement is signed.
Yes. A property sale often turns on the title deeds and a completion certificate from the lawyers; a share sale on signed share transfer forms and share certificates. We hold those documents with the price and release them on the evidence the agreement names. The agreement lists each document and who certifies it.
Yes, subject to the bank’s account offering for that currency and the bank’s own onboarding. Tell us the currencies at the start, so that the account can be opened before the signing. Currency exchange is not part of what we do unless the agreement says so.

Ask a trustee
Pick a question for a short answer from our FAQ. Nothing you choose here is sent anywhere. This is a scripted guide from our FAQ, not live chat and not advice.
Setting up, the law and tax
First agree the purpose and who should benefit. Your lawyer drafts the deed under the chosen law while the trustee checks identity and the source of the assets. After signing, the assets move into the trustee’s name and are recorded. The guide shows each stage in more detail.

Usually the owner transfers the shares or membership interest to the trustee under the deed, after checking the company’s own documents and any consent a lender or partner must give. The trustee then holds the interest and the company carries on. Company, tax and local law checks come first, so involve your lawyer.

Yes, in the places whose law provides for them. A trust needs a lawful purpose, a valid deed under its governing law, and taxes and reporting dealt with where the people involved live. It cannot be used to hide assets, defeat existing creditors or evade tax. A trustee will refuse a trust whose purpose or funding it cannot confirm.

It depends on where the settlor, the beneficiaries, the trustee and the assets are, and on the law that governs the trust. Many countries tax trust income or distributions in the hands of the people they treat as owners or recipients, and exchange account data under international reporting rules. We do not give tax advice, so ask your own adviser before you sign.

Cost, timing and running a trust
Time depends mostly on how quickly documents arrive and on checks by banks and registries outside our control, so we do not promise a date. Once you apply, the client portal shows each step and what is outstanding, and a 30-minute call sets out what to prepare first.

The cost depends on the structure, the places and assets involved, how many parties the trustee must check, and how much work the trust needs each year. We publish the set-up fee for each place; annual administration and event-based work are quoted after we review your case. Banking, legal and registry charges outside our control can add to it.

A trustee can borrow only if the deed and the governing law allow it. A lender will usually ask to see the deed, the trustee’s authority and the purpose of the loan. Some deeds limit borrowing or need a protector’s consent. Ask a lawyer before approaching a lender.

Asset management means running investments for a client, usually under a licence. A trustee does something different: it holds the assets, checks instructions against the deed, approves distributions and keeps the record. A bank or licensed manager that the deed allows for can run the investments.
